Meta to launch twitter like app "Thread"

Meta Platforms (formerly known as Facebook) is set to launch a microblogging app called Threads, aimed at rivaling Twitter.
This announcement comes shortly after Twitter CEO Elon Musk faced criticism for implementing a temporary cap on the number of posts users can read on the platform. Threads, scheduled for release on Thursday, will allow users to retain their followers from the popular photo-sharing platform Instagram and maintain the same username.
The launch of Threads poses a direct challenge to Twitter, which has faced various controversies since being acquired by Musk for $44 billion in 2022. While alternative microblogging sites have gained some traction, none have been able to rival Twitter's dominance.
However, with Instagram's vast user base and a history of successful feature introductions, Meta Platforms hopes to make an impact in the microblogging space.
