The eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has proven to be a tremendous financial success, accumulating an astonishing revenue of over PKR five billion.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has implemented a profit-sharing model, with the PCB receiving five percent of the revenue and the franchises receiving the remaining 95 percent.
The revenue has been generated through various channels, including broadcasting rights, title sponsorship, gate receipts, and other associated rights during PSL 8. The unaudited figures from the central pool reveal that the total revenue from the tournament reached Rs. 5.62 billion in the last edition.
Out of this total amount, the PCB's share amounts to Rs. 582,534,480, while the franchises collectively receive Rs. 5,046,776,989. The primary contributor to the revenue stream has been the television broadcasting deal, encompassing both domestic and international markets.
TV broadcasting rights alone generated an impressive Rs. 2,175,393,394, with an additional Rs. 402,824,378 earned from broadcasting rights in other countries.
Despite covering production costs and franchise fees, most of the franchises are expected to make a profit this year, except for Multan Sultans due to a higher franchise fee. Earlier this year, it was reported that the PCB had paid Rs. 2 billion in taxes to the government.
The financial success of PSL 8 highlights the popularity and commercial viability of the tournament, further solidifying its position as a premier cricket league in Pakistan.
